Mouse Control Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions about rat treatment?
Find answers to some of the most common questions about our professional mouse control services, including how our treatments work, what to expect during each visit, mouse proofing, safety, and how we help identify potential entry points.

Our standard mice treatment consists of three scheduled visits. The first visit includes a detailed inspection and initial treatment. We then return to assess activity, check the treatment and make adjustments where required. The final scheduled visit assesses progress and determines whether any further action is recommended.

Every infestation is different. The time required depends on factors including the level of activity, where mice are nesting, available food sources and how they are entering the property. Our aim is to control the infestation while also identifying the underlying cause wherever possible.

Entry-point investigation forms an important part of our approach. We look for potential access routes such as damaged air bricks, gaps around pipes, building defects and other openings. Where there are indications that mice may be entering from a neighbouring premises, further investigation may also be recommended.

Mice proofing is not automatically included within the treatment price. Where potential entry points are identified, we can advise you on the appropriate proofing work and provide a separate quotation where required.

Your pest controller will inspect the property for evidence of mice, possible nesting areas, food sources and potential entry points. An appropriate treatment programme will then be established based on the findings.

No. Mouse control should be based on the individual circumstances of the property. Depending on the situation, treatment may involve professional rodenticide, trapping, monitoring and environmental recommendations alongside investigation of potential entry points.

Treatments are carried out with safety as a priority. Where rodenticides are required, they are positioned and managed in accordance with professional procedures and the individual site conditions. Your pest controller will provide any specific safety instructions relevant to your property.

Yes mice can get through holes as small as 5mm if younger mice, and as little as 6mm for adult mice basically if an average pencil can get through the possibility is high that a mouse can also.  SCPC will assess your property and give you advice on how to move forward.

Look out for small, dark droppings, gnawed food packaging and scratching sounds in walls or ceilings, particularly at night. Shredded paper or fabric tucked away in cupboards can also indicate nesting activity.

You normally do not need to make major changes before we inspect the property. Avoid disturbing suspected nesting areas or moving evidence if possible. Make a note of where you have seen or heard activity so you can show the technician during the inspection.

Treatment tackles the existing infestation, but mice can return if entry points remain open or food and shelter are readily available. During our visits, we investigate how mice are getting inside and provide practical advice and proofing recommendations to help prevent further problems. Sealing gaps, storing food securely and following our recommendations will reduce the risk of mice returning. Any additional proofing work is quoted separately.

Yes. SCPC provides professional mice control for domestic and commercial properties across Essex, with treatment and recommendations tailored to the premises and level of activity.
