Got questions about rat treatment?
Find answers to some of the most common questions about our professional rat control services, including how our treatments work, what to expect during each visit, rat proofing, safety, and how we help identify potential entry points.
Our standard rat treatment consists of three scheduled visits. The first visit includes a detailed inspection and initial treatment. We then return to assess activity, check the treatment and make adjustments where required. The final scheduled visit assesses progress and determines whether any further action is recommended.
Every infestation is different. The time required depends on factors including the level of activity, where rats are nesting, available food sources and how they are entering the property. Our aim is to control the infestation while also identifying the underlying cause wherever possible.
Entry-point investigation forms an important part of our approach. We look for potential access routes such as damaged air bricks, gaps around pipes, building defects and other openings. Where there are indications that rats may be entering through the drainage system, further investigation may also be recommended.
Rat proofing is not automatically included within the treatment price. Where potential entry points are identified, we can advise you on the appropriate proofing work and provide a separate quotation where required.
Your pest controller will inspect the property for evidence of rats, possible nesting areas, food sources and potential entry points. An appropriate treatment programme will then be established based on the findings.
No. Rat control should be based on the individual circumstances of the property. Depending on the situation, treatment may involve professional rodenticide, trapping, monitoring and environmental recommendations alongside investigation of potential entry points.
Treatments are carried out with safety as a priority. Where rodenticides are required, they are positioned and managed in accordance with professional procedures and the individual site conditions. Your pest controller will provide any specific safety instructions relevant to your property.
Yes. Drainage and sewer systems can provide rats with routes towards buildings, particularly where there are defects or accessible connections. If our inspection indicates a possible drainage-related problem, we can advise on the appropriate next steps.
Typical signs include droppings, scratching or movement noises, gnaw marks, damaged food packaging, greasy smear marks and sightings of rats. You may also notice activity around gardens, bins, drains or outbuildings.
You normally do not need to make major changes before we inspect the property. Avoid disturbing suspected nesting areas or moving evidence if possible. Make a note of where you have seen or heard activity so you can show the technician during the inspection.
Treatment controls the current infestation, but another infestation can occur if rats still have a route into the property. This is why proofing, drainage issues, food sources and environmental conditions should be considered alongside treatment.
